Limits of the data
- Financial figures are what each company tagged in the XBRL data of its annual report. We show values in U.S. dollars only, use the most recent filing when a company restates a year, and do not adjust or estimate anything. Fiscal years end on different dates for different companies.
- Insider ownership forms (3, 4, 5 and 144) are filed by individual officers, directors and large holders. We count them but do not list them or the people who filed them.
- Bank income figures are year to date as reported in the Call Report; ratios are annualized by the FDIC. They are not a rating of a bank's safety.
- Trucking company fleet and driver counts are self-reported on Form MCS-150. Values that look like typing errors are shown as not reported. We list only companies registered as business entities, and we never show owner names, street addresses, phone numbers or email addresses.
- County Business Patterns counts are noise-infused by the Census Bureau, and some small cells are withheld.
- If a source does not respond, we keep the last good copy and show its date instead of guessing.
